All Scouts & Parents
We made good progress over this camp out weekend and at the meeting on Monday toward completing some Carpentry Merit badge requirements, but we still have a lot to do.
For Monday 11/22 we will still need to do the hand plane and saw exercises, and there are a few stragglers for the level, chalk line and mitre saw.
To do the scout built projects and shingling I'm scheduling a day, tentatively on SAT 12/10, at my house.
To teach shingling I'm going to use a small project that I need to do at my house, which is a shed roof. No I'm not scamming for some free child labor, it would be a lot less work for me to finish this project on my own in a couple hours rather than teaching 25 scouts how to lay shingles.
The project options that I think fit the requirement are a stool, a blue bird house and bat house. The scouts can choose which one they want to build.
The are several reasons i want to do a full day at my house,
-I can't move the shed :-)
-There are too many scouts to work on just one activity
-We can get the adult leaders and tools together, while the scouts have to do all the work, we can advise (and monitor)
-This will allow any scouts that have missed activities/skills to catch up
-Lastly we only have until the end of the year to complete the requirements
I realize that this is a busy time of the year, so I apologize up front for taking a day.
I do however need a firm commitment from those that intend to take part.
Please RSVP to this email to confirm your attendance.
Once I have sufficient interest, I'll send out further instructions.
