a) Three Ponds Trail - Sep 26/27 - Backpacking overnighter near Rumney NH. Scouts will hike in, work on Fishing Merit Badge, and work on backpack cooking with lightweight stoves - hopefully they'll pick singlepot meals. Sign up will be posted during the first meeting (Sep 14). Please plan to sign up if you are going as we have only two meetings to prepare and need an accurate head count. There will be a small fee just to cover food, in the area of $10.
b) NH Jamboree - Oct 9-11. Two night overnight in Loudon NH at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Friday through Sunday. This Jamboree comes around only once every four years and is jam-packed full of fun and engaging Scouting activities. Flyer attached. Please respond back to me with indication of whether or not you'll attend so we can reserve our spot. We'll be looking for final payments of $45 during the September 21st meeting, to cover food and entrance fee.
c) Scout-O - Oct 24 or 25. Please respond back to me if there is interest in attending either of these day-trip Orienteering events. Saturday the 24th will be a practice opportunity, which will take a few hours. Scouts who wish to compete can return on Sunday the 25h for the competition, which will also take just a couple hours. There is a $10 fee for either day, and Scouts participating in both days would pay $18. These events fill up real fast, so please respond back soon.
d) Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser- Nov 7. All Scouts are expected to participate in this successful annual endeavor and help in preceding days with organized efforts to get the word out. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and goes a long way to offset costs of camping trips and pay for Troop equipment. The Troop is considering Summer 2016 Trips to Gettysburg or Washington DC, and a substantial cost of that trip would be funded via the Pancake Breakfast.
e) Flag Retirement Ceremony - Nov 11. Each year the Troop properly retires tattered and worn flags contributed by folks in the community. This year we once again would like to challenge Troop 193 to a dutch oven cookoff during the ceremony.
f) Thanksgiving Themed Campout - Nov 14/15, possibly Friday night through Sunday. This is our annual bash complete with deep fried turkeys and tons of delicious side dishes created by our Scouts. (adults run the deep fryer)
g) December Campout - December 12/13. Scouts have elected to go back to Squanto for this "Troop 42 Tradition", where they'll have the opportunity to prepare and experience cold weather camping, do some delicious cooking, work on advancement, and partake in our annual Yankee Swap. Details to follow but mark the calendars now!
