Announcements

2/10/2011

Hi Everyone,

Well it is that time of year when things start to get a little crazy, but fun at the same time, so here are a few helpful reminders of some upcoming events that the Troop has planned;

1.)Gold Rush will be held on Saturday, February 19th. The Troop will be leaving from the Church parking lot around 6:30 AM on Saturday morning. The cost will be $10.00 per Scout plus the cost of your Team Lunch. Scouts should remember that Monday night will be our last opportunity to pull it all together, so please come prepared…..remember there is a free meal riding on this event. J Likely we might need a few drivers for this event, so parents, please sign up or see me.

2.)On Monday, February 28th , we will be having a showing of the Griswold Scout Reservation Summer Program DVD. Scouts and parents interested in what Summer Camp has to offer should plan on attending. The early bird down deposit of $50.00 is due by March 6th. Please sign up for either Camp Bell of Hidden Valley by March 6th so that we can begin working on the summer program. The total cost this year for summer camp will be $340.00 for Hidden Valley and $365.00 for Camp Bell (if $50.00 deposit is turned in by March 6th) The price will rise by $25.00 for those that come in later. The dates for Summer camp this year are July 10th thru July 16th.

3.)Good news…we won the lottery to camp on the Battlefield at Gettysburg over Spring Break. The permitted dates for this trip will now be April 21st thru April 24th , instead of the April 17th thru April 20th. Scouts should sign up at Monday’s meeting so that we can begin planning for this event. If we have a couple of good fundraisers we are hoping to keep the cost down around $100.00 or below.  This should be a great outing, and all Scouts should consider attending. For those that are interested, the Troop will travel down to Gettysburg on a chartered bus, set up camp on the fringe of the historic Battlefield, camp for 3 nights and sightsee during the day and return home on Sunday. Parents are welcome to attend….at least up to the limit of the bus, but we will need some adult supervision. Parents will stay in a local motel, as the campground limits the number of adults that can actually stay overnight.  We are hoping that a few adults might be willing to drive, allowing us some transportation flexibility once we get there, plus we will need some help with the Troop equipment.

4.) The March outing is presently scheduled for March 18th thru 20th, at Camp Massasoit. Hoping that the weather will cooperate and we can shoot off some model rockets. If the rockets don’t work out….keep that weekend open, because Scouting is Outing and we will do something.

5.)In May, the Scouts are looking at two possible outings; First a trip to Vermont to help Nick Blelloch complete his Eagle Scout Project, and the second a long Memorial Day Trip to New York to compete in some river canoe races on the Susquehanna River and spend some time in Cooperstown at the Baseball Hall of Fame. Please watch your e-mails for more details.

6.)Please remember to check out our great website…James is working hard at keeping it up to date. Address is www.troop42easton.com

7.)Please be reminded that the first payment (deposit) for Philmont will be due by April 15th. I will have more information to follow as the date gets closer.

8.)Please watch your e-mails for new details on the Scouting Medical Form…which has changed again. L Unlikely that summer camp will allow attaching your own form to the Scout form as they have in the past. I need to send all medical forms to summer camp by June 1st. Mrs. Ciatto will be coordinating the collection of medical forms, so please watch for more information.

9.)Please watch your e-mails for information on a few fundraisers that we are planning; a car wash, date to be determined; a jewelry party on March 25th, and possibly selling flower bulbs.

Please call with any questions.

Y.I.S.
Mr. Jennings
