Canoe Trip

5/25/2011

Hi Everyone,

A few last minute reminders regarding our trip this weekend;

1.)The Troop will be meeting on Thursday night at 7:30 at the Church parking lot to load everything. Scouts should bring all personal equipment, Troop gear and Food for the weekend. Mr. Mallors will be repacking all perishables into coolers, and non-perishables into boxes, so everything should be labeled and put into zip lock bags if appropriate. We will then review any last minute details for the trip. All adults that are planning on attending this event should plan to attend Thursday as well, so that we can get all the transportation properly set up. Scouts and adults should bring in the $65.00 payment for this trip.

2.)Scouts that have PFD’s should bring them on Thursday.

3.)Scouts will be travelling in Class “A” uniforms, as well as wearing the Class “A” for Cooperstown and the ride home. The red Class “B” shirt will be for Saturday at the canoe regatta.

4.)The Troop will be leaving from the Church parking lot at 3:00 on Friday afternoon. Please be on time as it is a 5 hour trip to Camp Henderson in New York. Those Scouts that are going to be at Six Flags, please make sure that you have turned in a permission slip from your parents allowing Mrs. Jennings to pick you up at 5:00 on Friday at Six Flags and bring you to meet up with the Troop.

5.)Please remember to bring a bag “dinner” for the ride to New York, as we will be making limited stops for bathroom breaks and that will be all that we have time for.

6.)In addition to the usual camping gear, Scouts should bring an extra set of clothing for Saturday, (in case they get wet), water shoes and/or old pair of sneakers that can get wet, a beach towel.

7.)Scouts will need funds for Saturday’s dinner at the fairground, lunch in Cooperstown, souvenirs and for lunch on the ride home Sunday. The $65.00 payment includes the camp site registration, admission to Baseball Hall of Fame and Howe Caverns, and registration in the canoe race.

8.)For those parents that sometimes wonder where we are or what we are doing, please note the following schedule;

       Friday: Departing at 3:00 for Camp Henderson BSA, in Maryland, New
        York……set up camp.

      Saturday: Camp Henderson in the morning….canoe races in Bainbridge, New
      York from 11:00 – 7:00 (includes time at fairground)

      Sunday: Camp Henderson in the morning…Cooperstown from 10:00 till 3:00       then back to camp.

      Monday: Camp Henderson departure at 8:30…..Howe Caverns from 10:00 till
      1:00…home to Easton, back by 7:00 or so.

9.)Reminder to those Scouts buying the food!!!!! Saturday Morning…hot breakfast, Saturday lunch…items to prepare a bag lunch for each Scout in the Patrol, Sunday Morning….cold breakfast, Sunday dinner…Dutch oven cook off and Monday Morning…cold breakfast. Please don’t forget the adults when planning your food.

That should be about all until Thursday night when we meet again.

Y.I.S.
Mr. Jennings
