Hello fellow scouts and parents,
Parent involvement comes in waves. As a long standing member of Troop 42 it has come to my attention that we seem to be in a downside. Scout fees are not coming in, Medical papers are late and enthusiasm for recruiting is at an all time low. It seems that the same parents are doing all the work while others forget that many of them sacrifice an enormous amount of time to VOLUNTEER. We assume the work will get done by somebody... Remember we get what we put in and every parents contribution and suggestions are valid and GREATLY appreciated.
It surprised me that at the end of the year last year as the year before we did not recognize enough, those on the troop committee that have been the foundations upon which our troop has survived. I would like to cheer them on! After a while they too reach a point of burn out unless we support them ( through participation as well and interest). Amongst those specifically Mark Jennings, John M, Mike B., Steve C and Kairie C.. There are also others and you know who you are. I have watched in surprise how the last troop meeting of the year would sort of fizzle off like an unexploded firecracker. It is presently sad to hear of the discouragement by the ones that work so hard to make scouting a great experience.

This is a request to ask parents to step up. ( and pay your dues on time) For so many years I have enjoyed watching the bonds that have grown and strengthened between the boys and their fathers and some mothers because of scouts. I've seen these boys become strong adults and good leaders. From shy boys that could not speak up in front of everyone to capable assertive young men. Let's continue to make it so. It can be so much FUN!!!! It is up to us to make it so, a great experience for all and IT IS WORTH IT!!!.
Being less than perfect MYSELF there have been many times I know I could have done more. Well, this is a start.
Many Thanks,
A concerned parent
