A few reminders for some Troop 42 activities;
1.) Merit Badge University starts this Saturday, March 5th. The classes run from 8:40 till 12:40, but I recommend that everyone try and get there around 8:15 for the first day, as it will be a little chaotic. This year the Scouts will be going right to the first period class, with no opening ceremony in the gym. Merit Badge books will be handed out at the first period, but I recommend that each Scout check out the requirements on line so that you are familiar with what is expected to complete the Merit Badge. Scouts should try and carpool if possible. Please print out and review the Merit Badge Class schedule that was sent out last week and is available on the Troop 42 website.
2.) The March Campout will March 18th thru the 20th, and we have decided to go to Camp Sayre in Milton. The Troop will be staying Lean-to’s and tents, along with hiking in the Blue Hills. The original rocket campout has been postponed until a later date.
3.) The Troop is still planning on going to New York over Memorial Day Weekend, to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame and compete in a canoe regatta. Presently, we are working on some early planning, starting with canoes…looking to get 6 canoes, either renting or borrowing, so if you know anyone that can help out please let me know.
4.) Gettysburg has officially been rescheduled for June 30th thru July 3rd. Scouts and parents that have not signed up should do so, as we are beginning to make arrangements for this trip.
5.) The Troop will be holding a couple of fundraisers to help pay for the Gettysburg Trip in July, so please watch your e-mail for more information. Hoping to keep the cost below $100.00/Scout.
6.) Summer Camp deposits of $50.00 are due by next Monday, March 7th, to get the early bird discount. All paperwork and payments must be in by May 23rd. Please note that the medical form has been changed and all Scouts will be required to use the new form, so plan accordingly.
7.) Summer Camp will be July 10th thru July 16th at Hidden Valley, presently we only have two Scouts interested in Camp Bell and a minimum of six is required to go to Camp Bell, so please sign up if you are interested in either camp so that we can get an accurate head count.
8.) Philmont 2012 deposits of $200.00 will be due by April 15th, so please begin turning them in as soon as possible so that the crews can begin to get organized.
9.) National Jamboree 2013 registration will be beginning soon, so any Scout interested in attending should see me for additional information.
